BACOLOD City – The Cadiz City Public Library (CCPL) in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental has undergone a major transformation, evolving from a traditional reading space into a modern learning hub that embraces innovation and digitalization.

Now housed in a newly renovated three-storey, glass-covered structure, the 38-year-old library has significantly expanded its services beyond printed books. Compared to its first renovation in 2001, CCPL today offers digital laboratories, robotics kits, and a fully equipped e-library with internet-connected computers — ideal for students and researchers without personal devices.

“No matter your age, whether you’re a bookworm or digitally savvy, you’re welcome at CCPL to read, research, or even explore robotics,” said Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr.

He added: “This is for all Cadizeños. This is for everyone who intends to expand their knowledge either through traditional way of reading books or the modern way of just letting the tips of their fingers in browsing through digital screens just to know everything around the globe.

Upgrading the library is another fulfilled mission for the city government, as it continues to invest in the future of our people,” the mayor said.

City Librarian Angel Mae Puyos echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that CCPL is more than just a building.

“It’s a symbol and a reminder that no matter how advanced our technology becomes, the foundation of learning remains rooted in knowledge, perseverance, and curiosity,” she said.

Originally built in 1987 and first renovated in 2001, the CCPL has now been reimagined for 2025 — standing resilient in an era where digital screens often take precedence over books. While many public libraries across the country are downsizing or closing, CCPL continues to thrive and innovate.

“What a noteworthy mission to accomplish — reimagining CCPL amid the digital evolution,” said Mayor Escalante. “For the sake of every Cadizeño striving for a better future, the city government will not rest in innovating or creating significant and relevant investments aimed at boosting everyone’s knowledge. We will continue to invest in initiatives that build a tech-ready and knowledge-driven community.”
